About

After 38 years of teaching middle school Bible, history, geography and leadership, I added both a DC and New York City tour guide license to my credentials.  Additionally, I have completed Trip School destination training in DC, New York and Boston, and in the SW National parks,  earned a Tour Guide Certification, and have enjoyed a season of leading student tours for World Strides in DC, NY and Boston.

Those experiences, enhanced by 22 years of taking my own 8th grade students to DC, the historic triangle, and beyond, have enriched my bag of tools and strategies that keep both students and adults engaged and interacting with the locations of our nation’s past, present and future. I enjoy watching historic and cultural sites come alive for students and adults alike as they realize that they are part of something bigger than themselves, and see with fresh eyes that they too can make a difference.

Digging in deep or skimming the surface, I will collaborate with you to create your adventure.  It is important that we communicate before and during your trip so we can be sure it meets your expectations.  I am excited to meet you and help everyone on the trip have the experience of a lifetime!

As a tour guide for World Strides, I have led student tours in Williamsburg, Jamestown, Philadelphia, DC, Boston and New York,  and I look forward to leading tours in new places!

Over the last 22 years I have assisted leading student tours in the historic triangle, (including Mount Vernon and Monticello), DC, Philadelphia, Gettysburg and Fort McHenry.
I also create and lead a local historical tour of the Rogue Valley in Southern Oregon for 8th graders.

Fun Fact!
Wherever I am, I know the altitude.
Hobbies & Interests
When I am not working the 26 acres I am blessed to live on, or carving another chess set, my sense of adventure has me hiking/snow shoeing and kayaking with my dogs in the foothills of the Cascades of Southern Oregon. I also help with disaster relief via Samaritan's Purse when the opportunity arises.

Testimonials

Debby Swope is an excellent tour guide. Having been both a history and geography teacher for several decades, not only is she incredibly knowledgeable, but her passion for sharing that knowledge is infectious!

After a guided trip to Washington DC, my daughter said, “I know she has been on this trip over 20 times, but her love for history and teaching makes it seem likes she’s sharing her knowledge for the first time!”Her excitement and energy bring so much to the overall experience! We wholeheartedly recommend her for any guided tour needs.

Thank you, Debby, for your dedication to inspire your students!
