Brenda Darcel Harris Lee is the Founder and Chief Fantasy Officer of Cal Events, Inc. a California-based tour and destination management company. Darcel also works with the California School Boards Association as their Director of Trainings.
Harris Lee began her work in tourism working for the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau where she developed the multi-cultural tourism industry. Her success with the San Diego CVB earned her the Hospitality &Tourism Person of the Year award. Later Darcel became an award-winning Convention Services Manager for Hilton Hotels and then went on to establish her own company, Harris Meeting Management Associates, a meeting, and event planning company that became one of the most successful in the industry.
In her current role as Chief Fantasy Officer of Cal Events Darcel enjoys designing tours and events for clients around the globe. Harris Lee’s operation focuses on small group tours with an emphasis on personal and individualized attention to details, unusual narratives about the history of her destinations, and a focus on fulfilling the travel dreams of her clients.
In addition to her experience in travel and tourism, Harris Lee was previously CEO of California Black Health Network, Vice President of Marketing for Hospital Corporation of America, Director of the Ken Blanchard Companies Speakers Bureau, and director of education programs for California Special Districts Association and the California Primary Care Association. She currently holds the title of Trainings Director for California School Boards Association where she manages a faculty and staff of 26 professional consultants who train elected school board members throughout the state of California. Under her leadership, CSBA was able to make a significant pivot from in-person events to virtual training so that all school board members can continue to access professional development in order to effectively govern during the age of COVID-19.
Ms. Harris Lee has received several honors and recognitions for her advocacy work in the health arena including special recognition at the White House by First Lady Michele Obama, the prestigious California Center for Public Health Advocacy Social Justice Champion of the Year Award, and the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian of the Year Award by Kappa Alpha Phi. Ms. Harris Lee holds a bachelor’s degree in business management with an emphasis in organizational development.
