Born and raised in Vienna – and remained loyal to the city all my life.
After finishing school, I worked for a few years at Vienna Airport and for airlines. I still find aircrafts fascinating, but my passion has always been history. That must have been due to my wonderful teacher. Thanks a lot, Mr. Weiss 🙂
At that time, trying to study history didn’t quite fit into my life plans. But I knew that one day I would do something with history… Well, it took some time, and before I decided three years ago to turn my interest in the city and its history into my profession, I had been working for the renowned Viennese auction house Dorotheum for more than 12 years – so tourism, art and culture had been my daily occupation for a long time.
After two years of training, I successfully passed the state examination to become an Austria Guide in spring 2019. And since then, I have enjoyed showing my guests around Vienna.
Vienna, of course, is the city of the Habsburg emperors and their empresses, of Mozart, the Lipizzaner, the Sacher-Cake and the Blue Danube Waltz. And it is with pleasure that I show the traditional side of my city to my dear guests. But for me, the interesting aspects of this city do not end here.
Quite the opposite. What interests me most is the more modern history of the city – how did things go on after the monarchy? What was it like when Austria disappeared from the map in 1938 and became part of Nazi Germany? The life in the city during the Second World War. And how the country was rebuilt and how does modern Vienna present itself today? Tours on the outskirts of the city are just as much a part of this as walks off the beaten tracks.
As a guide who is not solely attached to our country’s “glorious monarchical past”, it is important for me to show how history has shaped our modern city.
It may have taken me a while to find my passion. But now I enjoy it all the more to take my guests on a journey of discovery through Vienna. Let me share my excitement with you.
