About

Born and raised in Vienna – and remained loyal to the city all my life.
After finishing  school, I worked for a few years at Vienna Airport and for airlines. I still find aircrafts fascinating, but my passion has always been history. That must have been due to my wonderful teacher. Thanks a lot, Mr. Weiss 🙂
At that time, trying to study history didn’t quite fit into my life plans.  But I knew that one day I would do something with history… Well, it took some time, and before I decided three years ago to turn my interest in the city and its history into my profession, I had been working for the renowned Viennese auction house Dorotheum for more than 12 years – so tourism, art and culture had been my daily occupation for a long time.
After two years of training, I successfully passed the state examination to become an Austria Guide in spring 2019. And since then, I have enjoyed showing my guests around Vienna.

Vienna, of course, is the city of the Habsburg emperors and their empresses, of Mozart, the Lipizzaner, the Sacher-Cake and the Blue Danube Waltz. And it is with pleasure that I show the traditional side of my city to my dear guests. But for me, the interesting aspects of this city do not end here.
Quite the opposite. What interests me most is the more modern history of the city – how did things go on after the monarchy? What was it like when Austria disappeared from the map in 1938 and became part of Nazi Germany? The life in the city during the Second World War. And how the country was rebuilt and how does modern Vienna present itself today? Tours on the outskirts of the city are just as much a part of this as walks off the beaten tracks.
As a guide who is not solely attached to our country’s “glorious monarchical past”, it is important for me to show how history has shaped our modern city.

It may have taken me a while to find my passion. But now I enjoy it all the more to take my guests on a journey of discovery through Vienna. Let me share my excitement with you.

Classic Vienna Guided Tours
In, through and around the historic city centre. St. Stephen's Cathedral, Hofburg Palace, museums, emperors and empresses, coffee house, Wiener Schnitzel and more.

The Vienna Central Cemetery
The second largest cemetery in Europe and the historic resting place of 3 million people! From Ludwig von Beethoven to memorials to the victims of the Second World War. The Central Cemetery: an interesting, impressive, incredible place.

The Red Vienna - 1921-1933
Vienna was a stronghold of the Social Democratic Movement in the interwar period. An incredible amount was achieved to enable the population to live in dignity. Today, we can still benefit from the achievements of that time.
Come with me on a tour of some of the municipal buildings that were built at that time - the internationally acclaimed projects of that unique period.

Viennese districts
Vienna is not only the historic city centre, there is also a lot to experience on the outskirts. I will guide you through districts where I grew up and where I live today. Take a look at Vienna off the beaten track.

Vienna around 1900 - in the tracks of Art Nouveau
The architects of Art Nouveau - they were a bit like the punks at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The old didn't suit them anymore, so they created something new and never seen before.
On our walk we pass some highlights of this impressive epoch. Come with me and visit the must-see places, but also a few lesser-known but nevertheless fabulous pieces from the time around 1900.

The Ringstrasse
The construction of the Ringstrasse radically changed the face of Vienna's inner city. Today, world-famous buildings and Viennese history can be found along its few kilometres. Why does the Ringstrasse exist at all? Who lived there and who built the palaces of the rich and beautiful? Why is the Ringstrasse not a real Ring and what problems did the State Opera and the Burgtheater cause? There are simply too many exciting stories to fit them all into one tour. That's why I would like to introduce you to the Ringstrasse in three walks.

Dorotheum Auction House
A Viennese institution for more than 300 years. Founded by a Habsburg emperor, today it is one of the leading auction houses in the world. As the prestigious palace was my workplace for many years, I have the privilege of showing my guests around the house and offering them a glimpse behind the scenes.

One of the great joys of being a Tour Guide is to constantly roam the city and discover new and exciting spots to create inspiring and entertaining tours. For these tours, other tours and always new tours - please visit my website www.viennarob.guide

Fun Fact!
It took me 50 years to figure out that being a tour guide is what I want to do for a living. And now I have great fun. That's a fact :-)
