Recently retired from a very rewarding career in higher education administration and non-profit philanthropy, I took up the challenge to do something that combines my love of travel and abundant experience as a storyteller. That challenge, and much encouragement, came from friend, long time tour director, and volunteer extraordinaire, Tammy Barger.
I’m not new to travel and leading, having planned and led student groups, donors and friends as a part of numerous colleges and universities. My best offerings, at present, are cities including Boston, Washington, Atlanta, Chattanooga, Nashville, and all places in proximity to those cities. I am well-versed in Civil Rights history and have traveled, studied, and have benefited from many good friends and colleagues who were directly or indirectly involved with the fight for Civil Rights in the South. I am also passionate about music and music education and have traveled with student groups throughout the U.S. and Europe.
My wife, Dawn, a professional interpreter for the deaf, and I have been married for 41 years (yes, we were extremely young when we married!), and have recently moved to our permanent home in the mountains of north Georgia. (Dawn would say we’ve finally settled down after living in six different states.) Our son, Luke, is a professional photographer with the Ralph Lauren Co. in New York City.
When I’m not traveling for business or touring, I love to hike, kayak, and volunteer for our local food bank and Habitat for Humanity chapter.
