I had been pondering what I wanted to be when I grew up, when I went on a tour with my Aunt to Costa Rica. One day, near the end of the trip, I was talking with the tour director and mentioned I was looking for a 2nd act when she asked if I had ever considered being a tour director? The other guests who were nearby instantly chimed in–you would be AMAZING.
The guide introduced me to ITMI and the next thing I knew I was certified, licensed, and ready to embark on a grand new adventure. I soon had a full season of student tours lined up and I quit my job of 13 years and jumped in with both feet. That was at the beginning of 2020!
So with no group tours running, I opened my own walking tour company, a Walk & a Smile. I had a blast developing private walking tours here in the nation’s capital. It was so rewarding giving folks the chance to get outside, have a little fun, and learn a little something new about their hometown at a time when such outlets were so desperately needed.
Now that group tours are back, I have redirected my efforts there! With a mix of student and adult tours, my calendar is staying full. I am now guiding in the western national parks, New England, and the east coast. It is a joy to be doing something I love!
I have limited availability in 2023 and am currently looking at 2024 opportunities.
