I’m one of few guides specializing Brooklyn neighborhoods. In the 1990s, I began leading family/friends on informal tours of Brooklyn. My goal: to lead the type of energetic, interesting tours I’d take myself, with a sense of urban history, a dash of architecture and urban planning, and general curiosity about current events and controversies.
After founding my company New York Like a Native in 2000 with one tour, I’ve added numerous neighborhoods in Brooklyn, and expanded to a few neighborhoods in Queens and also the Lower East Side in Manhattan. I’ve led tours for college groups and many organizations/groups, as well singles, couples, and families.
My degree from Yale is in Political Science, but a class in architecture from the legendary Vincent Scully helped shape my interest in urbanism. My work as a journalist covering urban development gives me deeper insight into the city and its changes.
