About

Mercedes-Benz and Chrysler were my employers for 36 years as I worked in IT, managed a few teams, and conducted focus groups for change management.   I retired in April 2020…right before Covid struck and two weeks after an ITMI Master Class in Washington DC.  I had student tours scheduled for March – June and they all were canceled.  I was grateful that I had been able to do one student tour in Chicago the previous Fall.

My parents took me on trips throughout the United States starting when I was 8 years old, so that’s where my love of travel began.  However, my greatest joy is showing others the wonderful places, people, and things that I have experienced.  A few years ago, I was trying to plan my “second act” after retirement and as I was sitting on a motor coach during a Collette tour of the west coast, it suddenly hit me that I would LOVE to do what the tour director was doing.  That was that, and I took the ITMI course in the Fall of 2019.  The rest is history!

I am married and I have two grown sons, a daughter in law and one grand daughter.  They all love to travel too!

Tour Experience

Experienced with Detroit walking tours and step on tours with two different local tour operators.  I am a life-long Detroit area and Michigan resident so I know the area and the history.  I also am very familiar with the Henry Ford and Greenfield Village as I am a member and I also am familiar with the Motown Museum.

Conducted tours of Detroit's Historic 6th Precinct Halloween History tours - Fall 2020

Conducted Ann Arbor virtual student tours but I can do in-person tours as well.

Destination Knowledge

I have a lot of destination knowledge of Michigan - Mackinac Island, Traverse City, Holland, Frankenmuth, Sault Ste Marie, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum, etc.

I am a licensed Washington DC tour guide and I took my ITMI training in Washington DC as well as a master class there.

I winter in the Phoenix area and I have traveled most of Arizona including Grand Canyon, Saguaro, Petrified Forest, Canyon De Chelley and other national parks and monuments.

Disney is a passion!  We are Disney Vacation Club members and we visit Disney in Florida often.

Fun Fact!
When both I (tour guide) and my son (videographer) were unemployed because of Covid, we decided to create virtual tours of our hometown of Detroit! They are attached.
Hobbies & Interests
I have a home on Lake Huron as well as one in suburban Detroit. I have a passion for history and the Great Lakes, so I have been doing research on the Port Sanilac area to learn more about the lake and the history of the region (lumber, fishing, etc). I volunteer as a docent for the local Historical Society so I have learned a lot about Michigan's thumb region. We have four kayaks so I enjoy kayaking and introducing others to the joy of being on the water. Being on Lake Huron, I have also become a "boatnerd" and I constantly watch the lake to see the "Lakers" (great lakes freighters) go by and I have an app that tracks them! I have a small loft in the lake house so I have been collecting a library of history books and I love to read while watching the lake. In direct opposition, I love the desert and I spend winters in Arizona! Besides the lake, I also love doing the following: Gardening, National Parks (just visited 13 of them) , Art, Wine Enthusiast (the Traverse City area has great wineries), and Architecture (did you know that Detroit has many buildings built in the 1920's and all of them are gorgeous?).

Virtual Tour Experience

My son is a videographer and during Covid, we created some video tours of Detroit. I have attached two of them below. I have created some shoots of the Grand Canyon South Rim and a color tour of Northern Michigan that I filmed myself with a phone, a gimbal and a Rode microphone. I am currently editing the b-roll to create the videos. I am working on a website that will market trip planning that will contain these videos, pictures, maps, and suggestion for driving routes.
