About

Before I became a tour guide, I worked for a number of years as aa humanitarian worker which took me on numerous trips to the Middle East.  I have a Master’s Degree in religion jointly from Columbia University and Union Theological Seminary.  Those influences have led me to become very interested in Biblical Archeology.  I’ve visited the ancient city of Babylon, the Iraq Museum in Baghdad, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and the pyramids in Egypt, and the purported tomb of Jonah in Iraq, and other ancient sites.

Please take a minute to visit my website BiblicalArcheologyAtTheMet.org for more about my work.  I also give Highlights of the Met tours.  I hope I can host you and we learn more about the Book which is so central to the three Abrahamic faiths and much of the shared culture of the world.

Virtual Tour Experience

I presented a Biblical Archeology Tour for my fellow tours guides while we were all on Covid lock-down and using the time to educate ourselves. Link pasted in below. The actual tour begins after a few minutes of introduction. I'd be glad to lead a virtual tour for you. This tour is also ideal for classes with questions welcomed!

"Mel Lehman leads a wonderful tour.  He is super knowledgeable, gleaning a wealth of information from his many travels to the Middle East. He also interjects some humor and trivial tidbits to spice things up.  Highly recommended."

+ + + + +

"Taking a tour at the Met with Mel Lehman is so enriching and eye-opening. I recommend it. I didn't know any of these things he so kindly and generously pointed out to our group. Fascinating!! I have previously been to the museum so many times. This was the most helpful and interesting because of Mel's excellent explanations and insight. He is knowledgeable and able to give depth, partly because of his many travels, historical interest and Biblical research.  So worth it!  A guide is important."
