I am a tour guide, director and a new operator of local walking and culinary tours in the Vail area.
As a child I always dreamed of escaping. Escaping to some far off land where I could have adventures of my own. My dreams of escaping continued into adulthood but the responsible thing was to get a job so I worked for commercial architecture firms designing and managing projects in healthcare, hospitality and historic restoration. But eventually I had to escape. So my next responsible move was into construction sales working for window and tile manufacturers. This was a turning point for me. I developed and taught continuing education courses to architects as part of my job responsibilities which led to a book contract. Now I had to conduct my research which required quite a bit of travel!
Once I began traveling I needed to keep traveling. I guess it just got into my blood.
But teaching adults also interested me, so I decided to go back to school and get my Masters degree. However, the more time I spent in school the less I wanted to be in academia. Foreign countries and any place that wasn’t home kept calling me. So I was off again. In 2017 I went to Spain, Montenegro, London, biked through the Cotswolds, and trekked the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal. Now I knew that I had to find a place in the travel industry. That was also when I came across ITMI. As soon as I was done teaching skiing for the season I was off to Boston for my tour guide/director training and I’ve been loving life ever since.
While I love living in Colorado and enjoying everything it has to offer (it’s truly home to me), the adventure and learning that comes with travel will always be my first love.
