I grew up in Virginia Beach with the ocean as my constant companion and the horizon my enigma . Standing on the shoreline, I often wondered what lay beyond that thin line where the sky met the water. That curiosity eventually carried me into the United States Marine Corps, where eight years of service took me far beyond any horizon I could have ever imagined . I traveled through the Far East, the Middle East, Europe, and crossed oceans and seas; however, not in the most luxurious manner. Those years didn’t just answer my childhood questions—they shaped me, challenged me, and taught me what it means to grow up with purpose.
When my time in the Marines came to an end, I found a new calling in emergency medicine. As a paramedic for 32 years, I met people in their most vulnerable moments and sometimes in their most joyful ones. I learned how to bring calm to chaos, to listen when words failed, and understand that change was inevitable
Now retired from emergency medicine, I’ve returned to the passions that have always grounded me: reading, history, and storytelling. Those interests have led me into a new chapter as a tour guide, where I get to share the stories that shaped the places around us. In many ways, it feels like coming full circle—still exploring what lies beyond the horizon, just through the lens of the past and the people who lived it.
