About

The editor-in-chief and chief strategist of Go magazine, Diane was the first female CEO in the 55-year history of the largest LGBTQ+ media company in the U.S. (managing 5 magazines, 6 websites, 4 annual events, and 18 social media brands) and the first Native American as well (I’m Zuni/Choctaw, raised urban by Cherokee stepparent). A longtime journalist, author, sought-after public speaker (for corporations and non-profits), consultant, and writer (who specialized in travel, LGBTQ+ issues, diversity & inclusion, celebrity/entertainment, crime, and disability), Diane is now using her storytelling skills in a new way to those who want to travel and find out the unexpected and unforgotten about places near and far. A 5th generation Idahoan, Diane divides her time between the Northwest and California, where she has had a home for many decades. She partners on tour and off with her husband. of 32 years, transgender journalist, Out Traveler editor-in-chief, and fledgling travel guide Jacob Anderson-Minshall. (She’s a lot more fun than this sounds though, so if you want stories about snorkeling with sharks in San Diego, 4-wheeling across Aruba’s desert terrain, or dancing on tabletops in Tijuana, just say the word.)

Busy creating a new series of tours in Idaho, Utah, Oregon, and California  (I'm 2.5 hours from Yellowstone National Park; 2 hours from Salt Lake City; 20 min. from Pocatello, Idaho; and a longtime resident of Los Angeles/Orange County/Palm Springs/San Diego region (12 years) and San Francisco Bay Area/Santa Rosa Wine country/Monterey Bay/Silicone Valley (nearly 20 years). I also specialize in tours with LGBTQ+, disability, Indigenous/BIPOC, red light district, true crime, and cannabis themes.

Fun Fact!
A fictional character based on me was a part of The L Word season 4. Can you guess who?
Hobbies & Interests
I love anything to do with water, from snorkeling and feeding Manta Rays or canoeing through caves to soaking in primitive hot springs along the side of the river after whitewater rafting. I spent my free time mentoring college students, road-tripping with the fam (from short day trips to cross country vacations), eating (high and lowbrow food, I'll try it all), raising chickens, supporting Special Olympics (I am a caregiver to a sister in law with Down syndrome), watching Scandanavian noir or American crime TV, reading, hiking (Idaho's land is 63% public making for massive green spaces to play in), exploring Indigenous art, and acts of advocacy (supporting the rights of LGBTQ+, disabled, BIPOC, working poor parents, and other marginalized folks). I'm also the president of GALECA, an LGBTQ+ critics organization that produces the annual Dorian Awards of the best in film and television (so I watch a LOT of movies).
