About

Trafalgar core TD and TripSchool Bootcamp-certified Tour Director Christina Thomas-Curren leads adult and student OTR tours across the U.S., and works as an independent step-on guide in L.A., specializing in Hollywood & Beverly Hills history tours.  She’s worked with everyone from celebrities and wealthy families to underprivileged teens and people of all ages with special needs. She treats everyone with the same respect, dignity, and discretion while providing exemplary customer service (a skill she learned working at Nordstrom early in her career). She loves making people’s travel dreams come true and fostering environments for shared understanding across cultures and generations.

With a diverse background, including roles as a TV news reporter, positive psychology coach, adaptive ski instructor, and consultative sales leader, she brings a wealth of experience to every journey. Christina studied in Germany for two semesters (and still speaks German), worked as a tour guide in the USVI after college, and traveled extensively during her 17-year media & entertainment tech sales career. Having explored six continents and skied on three (so far!), this major extrovert thrives on meeting new people and prides herself on being a resourceful super connector. As a hobbyist standup comic and the daughter of a history teacher, she eagerly infuses group tours with laughter, enthusiasm, and captivating narratives, promising an unforgettable adventure!

—I first led tours on a 5-star Caribbean shore excursion boat right out of college. Today I lead multi-day adult and student tours across the U.S., Europe, and Japan. When I'm not on the road, I work as a step-on guide in L.A. County. Tour groups love my behind-the-scenes celebrity and entertainment industry stories from my years of working in TV and film, and I love showing them what makes L.A. unique! Also, thanks to my experience performing standup comedy for a number of non-English-speaking audiences, training as an interpersonal communication coach, and decades of global travel, I'm able to comfortably provide guided sightseeing tours for foreign-language groups.
As a Step-on guide, I've designed and delivered county-wide L.A. history and showbiz-themed tours, as well as Beverly Hills & Hollywood tours for several tour groups from India with limited English-language vocabulary. I've learned that warmth, humor, non-verbal communication (and a good translation app) can transcend language barriers. My most recent Indian tour group had so much fun, every single person asked me to pose for pictures with them! Positive energy is contagious, and my groups always have fun, despite any differences in language, culture, or age.

Volunteer tour work:
1. As a volunteer adaptive ski and snowboard instructor with Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra, I teach snowsports to kids, teens, and adults with physical and cognitive challenges and safely escort them across the slopes of Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort.

2. I helped raise $200k+ for charity volunteering as Sandpipers' Holiday Homes Tour staffing chairwoman, training volunteer tour guides and coordinating more than 300 volunteer shifts. (Founded in 1931, Sandpipers is a 100% volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit women's club dedicated to serving the needs of the South Bay community through charitable and philanthropic programs.)

Fun Fact!
I was a TV news reporter early in my career, and met my husband on a sea cave kayaking trip to Santa Cruz Island.

Testimonials

“A guide who goes above and beyond to ensure a memorable experience, look no further than Christina Thomas-Curren if you need guided tours in Los Angles.

Christina had an impressive depth of knowledge about the area, sharing fascinating historical facts, local legends, and inside tips that you won't find in any guidebook, she is energetic, vivacious and focused. Her skills are unmatchable.

Her storytelling kept the entire group engaged and made the experience both educational and entertaining.

I will book Christina's guide services for all my forthcoming series.”

—Nirupama Zaveri/Owner, Swarga Travel Ready Destination Mgmt Co.

“Christina accompanied us on our 4th Grade Revolutionary War overnight trip to the Ocean Institute in Dana Point. In addition to being our representative for Grand Classroom, she served as the leader of one of our activity groups in the ship’s galley! She had instant
rapport with our whole group and worked very well alongside our school chaperones as well as the staff from the Institute. This was our class’s first overnight and involved more than the usual amount of challenges. Christina was instrumental in the trip’s success.”

—Paul Ruppert/ The Rhoades School

"I had the pleasure of matching with Christina as a potential mentor through an exclusive forum called Women in Revenue. I specifically reached out to her as I was very interested in learning how to empower myself through her positive psychology-based career coaching practice. I left feeling confident and empowered in my ability to hit my next milestone which specifically for me was a job change and higher salary band.”
