About

When you spend hours of free time mapping cities and creating walking tours for your family, it’s time to turn that hobby into a career!  I have an enthusiastic curiosity for the world’s diverse cultures and am a firm believer that travel has the power to transform and enrich lives.  As a tour director, I aim to facilitate a joy of discovery for all of my guests.

While I am a native Minnesotan, I have lived and worked in many cities in the US and abroad.  Prior to tour directing, I worked as a self-employed consultant in finance operations focusing on process improvement projects.  What does that mean?  It means that I take pride in turning a big chaotic mess into something useful, manageable, and productive.  As a consultant, I have enjoyed working with a wide variety of clients from large corporations to small family businesses.  This has provided a fantastic foundation for skills needed in tour directing including customer service, creative problem-solving, organization and time management, quick thinking, flexibility, and dealing with a wide variety of personalities.  After the Covid pandemic, my job had become 100% remote and I missed the in-person interaction.  I knew my second act career needed to combine my professional skills with my passion for travel.  It didn’t take long to find tour directing.  While I have always been the “travel planner” for my family and circle of friends, what really lights my fire is helping and encouraging people to find and move past their own limits.  This can range from gently encouraging trying a new or exotic food to leaping from waterfalls in the jungles of Venezuela.

I look forward to working with you!

Testimonials

Amy was a joy to be with at every turn. She handled unexpected issues with confidence and calm. She added insights along the way and freely shared experiences that made the trip seem like a family outing.

Amy was on top of everything. When we needed to change our return trip, she told us how to do that and accommodated our revised schedule. Amy even took the extra step of quietly getting everyone in the group to sign a surprise birthday card (purchased by Ike, the bus driver) and singing happy birthday to the passenger while on the bus.

I loved Amy. This was my 7th trip and she is one of my favorite course leaders that I have had. She engaged well with the students, had some fun ways to help them remember such as a bingo card with key dates, words, etc. She listened to questions, used stories to help share the information, gave us some fun facts such as the significance of various addresses.

Amy was a fabulous course leader/guide for our students. She was informative, handled our needs for meals and scheduling well, and had great conversations with them. The students were sad to say goodbye to her by the end of the trip. She is an excellent asset to WorldStrides!
